Welcome to Falena

So, what the heck is Falena? Just some lame name for my free hosting services.

Right, so, what exactly can I get from you?

Take an example. You want to start a blog about whatever subject you fancy but blog hosting like Wordpress or TypePad is too constraining. You want your application and the freedom to do whatever you want with it. I can set up your publishing tool for you, give you FTP access and off you go. I can even keep the software up to date providing you don't play around too much with it.

Managed hosting and turnkey applications is not your thing? I also offer stock shared hosting. FTP access, databases, and every programming language you can ask for.

All of this also comes with spam-filtered email/IM addresses and detailed web stats. I can host a domain name if you have one, or give you a sub-domain on falena.fr.

What are you asking for it?

Like I said earlier, it's free. All I ask for is a link on your site to this page. And no, I'm not asking for donations either. Things get complicated when money gets involved.

Where's the catch?

There's no catch. All I'm asking for is the link. I just have a server with too much bandwidth, don't think too much of it.

Who can apply?

This service is essentially thought for individuals and communities. It runs on a pair of private servers built with commodity hardware. Needless to say, it is not intended for nuclear facilities, air traffic control, life support machines, weapons systems or anything which actually needs to run. This is a free service and I'm not going to build a fault tolerant system out of generosity.

So, short answer, if you're a company or any kind of formal organisation, do yourself a favor and go look somewhere else.

Chit Chat

Have any question? There's an IRC channel, #lost-edens @ irc.rizon.net.

I may or may not be present on IRC depending on my day-job, the quality of the weather outside, the quality of my internet connection and the current moon phase. Keep in mind I live in the CET/CEST timezone (UTC+1/+2). Others may lurk on the channel but I can't guarantee anything regarding their English fluency and none of them has access to the knobs. I always keep an eye on my emails though, and there's still the phone in the worst case (ask the lurkers or whois). So you know what to do if there's an emergency.
